Local clubs say better equipment and early snow have changed the outlook for hill athletes.

The sports department said trials will be open to all districts, with special attention to remote areas such as Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti.

What happens next

Fans are expected to turn out in numbers, and the organisers have promised arrangements for parking and public transport.

Coaches said the facility would give young athletes from the hills a place to train close to home, instead of travelling to the plains.
